The Department of Endocrine Pathology and Pubertal Development is a leading research unit dedicated to the study of endocrine and metabolic disorders in children and adolescents. Its main areas of expertise include diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance, obesity, thyroid diseases, growth disorders, and abnormalities of pubertal development.

For many years, the Department has conducted research on the pathogenesis and complications of pediatric diabetes, including diabetic nephropathy, retinopathy, encephalopathy, and other microvascular complications. Current research focuses on the mechanisms of insulin resistance, prediabetes, obesity, and cardiometabolic risk factors during childhood and adolescence.

A major area of activity is the investigation of hormonal, immunological, and metabolic mechanisms underlying disorders of growth and pubertal maturation associated with thyroid diseases and other endocrine conditions. Researchers have identified risk factors for pubertal disorders, developed predictive models of disease progression, and proposed approaches for the prevention of long-term reproductive complications.

The Department also conducts population-based studies of physical and sexual development, contributes to the establishment of normative pubertal standards for adolescents, and evaluates factors influencing reproductive health and developmental outcomes.

Research findings support evidence-based strategies for prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of endocrine disorders in pediatric populations and contribute to the advancement of child and adolescent endocrinology.
